I absolutely love everything about the Fourth of July.
Family, food, and fireworks…what could be better?
During the summer months, I typically have my kids do a weekly themed craft. Art time adds a different element to our days, it helps us celebrate all things summer in a creative way, and introduces them to a variety of different art mediums.
In anticipation of the fourth, I researched as many different ways to make fireworks art as possible. I came across a creative, fun, and mess free way for my kids to recreate their favorite part of July… finger paint and kitchen sponges/ dish brushes!
We used the following supplies for the project:
- Construction Paper (red and blue)
- Finger Paint (red, white, dark blue, and light blue)
- Dish brushes and sponges (any old ones in the house you no longer need OR pick up a few at your local dollar store or Wal-Mart!)
In ten minutes time and with only three supplies, your kids will have a fun, organized, and cute craft that is mess free due to the painting tools used… dish brushes and dish sponges!
When I introduced the project to my kids, they immediately got right to work switching back and forth between the different paint colors, brushes and sponges. I absolutely love the variety that each brush and sponge gave to the paintings…just like the real show!
The final products came out better than I had ever expected.
My most favorite part however was definitely the sound effects my boys made as they created each firework… “POW! BANG! POP!” … I loved every second of it as much as they did!
I encourage you to try this quick, fun, inexpensive, mess free, and BEAUTIFUL 4th of July craft with your children!
